THE ART OF WEDDING GIFT PRESENTATION
Manuela Menzi Studio’s guide to wedding gift presentation.
Wedding gift etiquette differs from culture to culture. For some, cash is expected, while others may find asking for monetary gifts distasteful. Many couples prepare a registry with preselected items, while others choose not to specify any preferences. Some may even ask their guests not to bring any wedding gifts at all. In China, it is customary to hand over red envelopes called hóngbāo with a monetary gift inside, while the equivalent in Japan is goshugi-bukuro, a highly decorative, knotted envelope. In the United States, buying home appliances and pre-selected items from a wedding registry is quite common, whereas in many Middle Eastern countries, gold jewellery and coins are often preferred.
No matter the selection and etiquette, the gift presentation distinguishes thoughtful gestures from sloppy ones. Weddings are special events that require great attention to detail, including colour palettes, floral selections, and a general aesthetic direction. Putting in the effort to transform your gift’s appearance to match the occasion makes all the difference.
Presenting Monetary & Enveloped Wedding Gifts
Offering enveloped gift cards and cash at weddings is becoming increasingly popular around the world, as it creates less of a burden to the couple. However, simply putting cash in an envelope may feel impersonal and transactional. Presenting monetary wedding gifts in a tasteful way requires the appropriate gifting accessories; from the envelope and the card to the pen and seal, every detail matters.
(01) Select an unconventional card
Instead of a mass-produced wedding card, you can select a unique one that matches the wedding’s colour theme and aesthetic, or perhaps one that may hold a symbolic meaning related to the couple’s love story. For example, our “Love” greeting card is a great example of an unconventional wedding card alternative, as it features an intricate collage design that does not explicitly use common ceremonial symbolism.
(02) Use a fountain pen or calligraphy marker
Writing down your wishes with a fountain pen transforms your message into a work of art. The ink is deposited on the paper in a fluid, elegant way. Alternatively, you can opt for a calligraphy marker or a fineliner to avoid smudges and bleeds. Before enveloping the handwritten card, let it air dry for a few minutes.

(03) Choose an appropriate envelope
Instead of a utility wallet envelope with a straight flap or a standard business one, choose a Baronial or A-style envelope, or one with a lined interior that matches your greeting card. The texture, colour, and heaviness of the paper make all the difference; the more tactile the paper, the more luxurious its overall appearance. Our studio’s cards come with high-end lined envelopes that fit them perfectly. To add an extra layer of formality, you can use a wax seal or tie a silk ribbon around the enveloped wedding gift. To avoid confusion, do not forget to sign your name on the back of the envelope.
Boxed Wedding Gifts Presentation
Although enveloped monetary gifts are becoming the standard for weddings, classic presents such as high-end appliances, crystal glassware, and porcelain sets are still popular. What has truly changed is that heavy boxed wedding gifts are now delivered directly to the couple’s address, rather than brought to the wedding venue. To elevate the overall wedding gift presentation, it is important to hide its interior with high-end decorative paper that matches the couple’s taste or the overall wedding theme.
(01) Enclose the present with decorative gift wrapping
If the physical gift does not come in a package, make sure to encase it in a minimalist yet beautifully made box that will protect it from the elements. To add an elegant layer to your wedding gift presentation, make sure to wrap the box or package with decorative paper that fits perfectly with the wedding’s aesthetic. For example, our “Lemons of Sicily” wrapping paper is the ideal choice for a summer destination wedding, while “Spring Cocktail” could be selected for a spring wedding taking place in a flower field. As an alternative to decorative paper, you can choose one of our high-end fabric wraps.

(02) Add a handwritten note
Once the gift is tightly wrapped, you can tie a silk or velvet ribbon around it and attach a handwritten note with a special wish and your signature. Gift tags are an excellent solution, as they offer just enough space to share a message and can be easily attached to your gift.
